A Typical Example of Divine Guidance in my Life

I was visiting my daughter in Gloucester, MA during the Christmas season of 1994 and we were shopping together in a WGBH (Public Broadcasting from Boston) store for a present for Kayla, my grandchild, that would challenge her considerable intellect.  While perusing the store I passed by, a number of times, a stack of white covered paperback books entitled Everyday Zen.

On the first pass I stopped and flipped through a copy; Zen was a topic about which I knew little but was interested.  But I put the copy back on the stack thinking, You’re looking for presents for Kayla, not yourself.

The stack of books tugged at me each time I passed it subsequently, but my resolve to ignore it was firm.  Finally I selected a present for Kyla and got in the long, slow moving line to pay for it.  But the book was still pulling me; after a few minutes of wrestling my mind told me emphatically, Go get that book.

So I left the line when I was only two buyers away from the checkout clerk, got my copy, and returned to the back of the line.

I am convinced that I was led by The Lord to buy the book.  To say that it has had a profound impact on my life and spiritual development is a gross understatement.
